Left Handed Virtuosos?
Wе’ve аƖƖ heard tһе ѕtοrу (I wουƖԁ assume) οf һοw a young Jimi Hendrix re-strung аח electric guitar ѕο tһаt һе сουƖԁ play іt left-handed. Aחԁ οf course һе became famous.
Iח tһе performing world οf classical music һаѕ tһеrе еνеr bееח tһе equivalent? A string instrument player wһο’s done tһе same thing? Eіtһеr reversed tһе strings οח tһеіr instrument οr һаԁ a custom left-handed instrument mаԁе? Perhaps a noted left-handed violinist? Or violist οr cellist?

With regards to “string” instruments, I’ve never heard of any.
The only episode in classical music about a “left hand” performance that I’m aware of, was the one regarding a pianist who in WW I had his right had injured to the extent that he could no longer use it, and commissioned Maurice Ravel to compose a piece for the piano, featuring the left hand: Ravel’s famous “Concerto for the Left Hand”.
Which from what I’ve gleaned from previous postings of yours, you would probably be familiar with.
But just in case you weren’t, thought I would mention it. And sorry, but this is all I can offer.

Paul Wittgenstein commisioned many piano works for the left hand alone, after losing an arm at war. There is a small but decent body of literature now. Murray Perahia, the concert pianist of recent years performed much of it after he lost the use of her right hand, though he overcame the injury at last.
On a sort-of similar note,Josef Hoffman, the great pianist of the early 20th Century had a piano specially designed with slightly narrower keys to accommodate his small hands. (That always seemed a bit like cheating to me!)
As far as restringing a violin of cello…I’ve never heard of anyone famous doing it. I wonder if there is any acoustical reason it can’t be done, related to the stresses on the instrument or a resulting inferior tone quality. I guess I don’t see why it couldn’t be done, but it any event, for a left-handed person the complex fingering is normally done by the dominant left hand anyway…so maybe it would actually be a handicap to make them do the intricate work with a hand posessing less dexterity!
